Jakarta, (ITN-IndonesiaTouristNews): Indonesia will be the first guest of honor at Congress Nouvelles Esthetique & Spa 2018 on 7-9 April 2018 in Paris, France. It is going to be the first time a conference and exhibition in the global wellness industry will integrate aesthetics and spas with tourism destinations.

Thus, Indonesia Ministry of Tourism and Visit Indonesia Tourism Officer (VITO) organized a special famtrip for the French media, participated by seven people from print media, electronic, and online (YouTuber / Influencer). The famtrip constitutes the initial campaign of the appointment of Indonesia as a guest of honor at Congress Nouvelles Esthetique & Spa 2018. The famtrip took place from 6-19 November 2017.

The trip program focuses on wellness tourism, highlighting the spa, gastronomy, and traditional herbs using the original herbal ingredients of the archipelago.

Destination visited: Bali (Ubud, Bangli, Gianyar, Nusa Dua), Gorontalo (Gorontalo city and Pulo Cinta Eco Resort), East Java (Surabaya and Kaliandra Resort & Eco Farm, Pasuruan), Central Java (Semarang and Magelang) , Jogja and Jakarta. Destination options combine the present some of Indonesia’s 10 Beyond Bali Priority Destinations with potential new destinations. Each destination represents diversity of tradition and culture of wellness in different islands, marine and mountainous beauty, resort spa facilities and eco resort, as well as authentic regional cuisine.

The two weeks of island hopping, seeing and tasting the distinctive spa products, experiencing different cultures and nature, has mesmerized the media from France.

“The selection of destinations, accommodations, and activities or attractions, all done by considering the character of the French tourist market and its interests. For the spa, they want to know what herbs are used, for what purpose, how the traditions done here, accommodation etc. They are adventurers. They not only looking for famous places, networked accommodation, but also new places. So in this famtrip program we are combining it all, ” said Eka Moncarre, Country Manager of VITO France, who accompanied the famtrip participants during their stay in Indonesia.

Understandably, many massage techniques of tradition and herbal ingredients flourish and still live to date in Indonesia. Massage and consume herbs done by women and men, ranging from villagers to urban communities in the city. Massage and herbal ingredients are used for relaxation, therapy, and treatment.

Each region has a characteristic massage technique although the basic movements are the same. For example in Java, massaging generally starts from the foot and ends at the top (head). In Lombok, it starts with a stretch at the waist before massaging from the foot up to the top of the body. In Gorontalo, north part of Sulawesi island, it is almost the same as in Java. The difference, hair is clot then pulled at the end of the massage.

Massage uses local oil products, some are made in traditional ways, some have been made with modern techniques and equipment with the ingredients taken locally.

Typically, traditional massage experts will perform certain rituals before and after massaging. This is closely related to the beliefs and influences of local culture. For example, pray before and after massaging pleading health.

Indonesian women are no stranger to lulur massage. It is performed for relaxation and body care to be part of important ceremonial rituals, for example before the wedding.
